G20 (The group of twenty) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It was founded in 1999 after the Asian crisis as a forum to discuss global economic and financial issues. Later on it was upgraded to the level of heads of state/government in 2007, and, designated the “premier forum for international economic cooperation”.
G20 plays a very important role in strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. It consist of 19countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union as well. Since the group does not have a permanent secretariat. Its presidency is supported by the Troika- previous, current and incoming presidency.
This year’s G20 meeting will be held in New Delhi as the upcoming eighteenth meeting of G20, it is said to take place in Bharat Mandapam international Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It will be the first time that a G20 summit will be held in India as well as in South Asia.
All the central government offices in the national capital will be closed from September 8 to September 10. The markets and malls in NDMC will be shut down, but there won’t be such restrictions outside the NDMC limits. Delhi officials said hospitals, medical stores and milk booths shall remain open, as these are some essential services.
