Smriti Irani handed over the investigation to the CBI into the RS 144 crore scam

The ministry has conducted internal tests in 100 districts of 34 states. Of the 1,572 institutions in 21 states, 830 have been found to be fake. About 53 percent of fake candidates have been found. In the last five years, only 830 institutions have been involved in scams worth Rs 144.83 crore.
India’s biggest minority scholarship scam has been exposed. Fake beneficiaries, fake institutions and bank accounts under fake names have come to light in many states. The case pertains to alleged institutional corruption in minority institutions, state administration and banks. Union Minister Smriti Irani has called for a CBI inquiry. According to information received by India Today, in the investigation of 1572 minority institutions including madrasas, 830 were found to be fake / non-operational, in which there was a scam of Rs 144 crore.

In fact, the Ministry of Minority Affairs had filed its complaint with the CBI on July 10. The ministry has conducted internal tests in 100 districts of 34 states. Of the 1,572 institutions in 21 states, 830 have been found to be fake. About 53 percent of fake candidates have been found. In the last five years, only 830 institutions have been involved in scams worth Rs 144.83 crore. However, the investigation of other institutions is also going on. In the cases investigated so far, the case has been handed over to the CBI to probe the large-scale loss to genuine beneficiaries of the scholarship by fake beneficiaries and loss of Rs 144 crore to the exchequer. According to sources, this is institutional corruption at many levels. The institutes are either non-existent or non-functioning but registered on both the National Scholarship Portal and the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE).
Order to freeze accounts of beneficiaries associated with these 830 institutions
1. Investigation of 62 institutions in Chhattisgarh: All fake/non-operational
2. 128 institutions of Rajasthan were examined. 99 Fake/Non-operational.
3. Assam 68 per cent fake
4. Karnataka 64 per cent fake
5. Up to 44 percent fake in UP
6. Bengal 39 percent fake
