Popular actor R. Madhavan, who won a National Award for his first movie as a director, “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,” has taken on a big new job. He’s now the President of the well-known Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) starting from September 1st. But that’s not all – Madhavan also became the Chairman of the FTII’s governing council, a role previously held by famous filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, whose term ended on March 3rd this year. FTII Registrar Sayyid Rabeehashmi confirmed this change, saying, “Mr. R. Madhavan has been appointed as the President of FTII Society and Chairman of the Governing Council. The Ministry officially told us about it”. To share this exciting news and congratulate Madhavan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur used social media, saying, “Congratulations to @ActorMadhavan ji on becoming President of @FTIIOfficial and Chairman of the governing council. I believe that your experience and strong values will make this institute even better. Best wishes to you.”

Recently, it was revealed that he is on his way back to India after a stint in the United States. The Vikram Vedha star, known for his versatile acting prowess, is not only returning home but is also taking on a significant new role in the Indian film industry. Madhavan appeared genuinely excited about this fresh responsibility as he journeyed back to his homeland. His phone has been buzzing with messages of congratulations since the news of his appointment broke. He graciously acknowledged the well-wishes, saying, “Thank you so very much. It’s a huge responsibility, and I hope I can live up to expectations.” R Madhavan stepped into the shoes of Shekhar Kapur, the renowned filmmaker who had held the position. Shekhar Kapur had been appointed as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India and the chairman of the governing council in 2020. As his tenure came to a close, R Madhavan emerged as the nominee for this.
The Indian film industry eagerly anticipates the impact of R Madhavan’s leadership on the Film and Television Institute of India, looking forward to his contribution to its growth and development. This transition marks an important chapter in the institute’s history, and all eyes are on Madhavan as he takes on this vital role in the world of Indian cinema.
