On May 22, Wednesday , a three and a half year old girl child was kidnapped, raped and killed by a man in her neighbourhood, in Kapashera, southwest Delhi.
Anil, the accused, lived near the child’s home in the rented quarters.
The families knew each other and even shared meals at times. The little girl called him uncle and even played with him.
When the family started searching for their child, another neighbour told the mother that Anil had taken her. When Anil was nowhere to be found, the mother lodged a complaint with the police.
According to the police, the little girl’s mother had informed them around 6PM that her daughter was playing and Anil had taken her.
After the police could not locate Anil and the little girl, they registered a case of kidnapping.
CCTV footage showed Anil carrying the girl towards a drain around 7 pm and returning alone less than a half hour later.
Later during an interrogation by the police, Anil had confessed to kidnapping, killing and dumping the child in a marshy drain on the border of Kapashera with Gurgaon.
In a statement, the DCP informed that the accused showed the drain area, to the police, which was surrounded by bushes and trash.
A search operation was conducted which resulted in the discovery of the body after a long hour.
The rape was confirmed in the postmortem, on Friday May 24, by the medical board.
This really brings out the question. Are no girls safe?
