Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members gathered at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday following reports that Delhi police would take statements from his parents concerning the Swati Maliwal assault case. Prominent AAP leaders like Gopal Rai, Atishi, Sanjay Singh, and Saurabh Bharadwaj were among the first to arrive.

Contrary to earlier reports, sources informed News18 that police would not visit Kejriwal’s home on Thursday to interview his parents and wife, noting that the investigation could take place later.

On Wednesday, Kejriwal tweeted, “Tomorrow, Delhi Police will come to question my elderly and sick parents.” Sanjay Singh condemned this action, stating, “The ruling party is now targeting Kejriwal’s elderly parents, who are in poor health.”

Swati Maliwal has accused Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, of assaulting her during a visit to the chief minister on May 13. Kumar has been arrested. Atishi from AAP suggested that ever since Kejriwal was granted interim bail, the BJP has been devising new strategies against him, including the tactic of questioning his elderly parents.

In his initial response, Kejriwal told PTI he is hopeful for a fair investigation. Maliwal called his reaction ironic but welcomed his call for justice.

Asha Devi, mother of the 2012 Delhi gang rape victim Nirbhaya, expressed her support for Maliwal, demanding strict action against those who assaulted her at Kejriwal’s residence.
